Ramble

Something that I find fun and interesting is the constant back-and-forth conversation that some film franchises have with different countries. For example, Classic Westerns inspired classic Samurai films in Japan, inspiring spaghetti Westerns, etc. This cultural exchange shows how creative humans can be in building from what others have made. But it’s important to acknowledge the source of inspiration; otherwise, the appreciation for what was originally there just becomes a theft of what was.

In literature, this is a constant thing where authors are referential to the past works and what came before and after. Knowing those references can increase one's understanding of a piece and make it more impactful. All art is referential to the world. This is a concept that I have been thinking about recently: just how referential everything in life is and how nothing is just as the object, but its meaning is completely altered due to the context surrounding it

In archeology, finding something isn’t enough. In fact, archeologist try their best to leave everything where it is because where it is and what it’s next to is just as important as finding it. They can determine whether an artifact is rubbish, a daily tool, or something to be revered just from where it is. The signs of what is in the past lie in the context of its surroundings.

A process that helps archeology is ethnology which is the observation of currently existing societies on all levels of centralization. This gives Archeologists an analogy to use for understanding what the past behavior of people might have been. The observation of the past requires analogy to understand it. But they don’t take this analogy at its face value because we know it won’t fit perfectly, and it’s important for us to determine how it doesn’t fit as it does to figure out how it fits.

Currently, I am trying to organize all these ramblings into a coherent idea because I just woke up, and my body is so stiff it’s hard to come up with ideas of what to talk about. All these ideas are also related to a small side project and magic system. Thank you for reading this mess. I’m a professional.
