Grillfe 2
The election Gala Coruscant. Formal dress, overly expensive food, and fake smiles on politician’s faces. The constable of off-world affairs, Danos Fairv, sipped from the champagne glass as he watched the crowd for his target. He was a portly man with an Aj^4 unit in the back of his head. His left eyebrow was constantly arched in an expression of bored curiosity. A flash of mild interest passed his face when he spotted his target. The newly elected minister of off-world affairs is a Twelik. Danos’s head computer recollected every fact about the minister and recalled it to him. Twelik. Middle-aged, wife, one child, another on the way. Former member of the Ryloth Sisterhood of Coruscant. Former Union leader of the Shipbreakers Union of Coruscant. Suspected person in the extorsion of Kaven Toss. Suspected person in the illegal transfer of imperial credits to Wookie-resistant movements. Suspected person in extortion of MOOF candidate Pressive torn. Suspected person in the murder of Kaven Toss… The computer droned on. Danos walked to the Twelik. Whoever this Grillfe person was, whether a pawn to a larger conspiracy or just some criminal using the underground to his advantage, he was good at covering his tracks just enough so we couldn’t stick it to him and shielding himself in the public eye.
“Hello Grillfe, how are you enjoying your gala,” Danos interrupted the conversation the Twelik had with councilor Mon Mothma, a woefully liberal politician the fought against every effective change that this overly bureaucratic system needed to deal with the true scum of the galaxy.
“Evening constable. I was hoping to meet you.” Half-life insufficient data on Leku movement and its meaning. Danos filled the gaps. Clearly, Twelik feared his power but needed to see the predator. “As I understand, you will be answering to me this time come next month.” Genuine smile meaning unclear. Unwitting superiority.
“I will be working under you, but my loyalty is to the law,” Danos was snide with this remaker, thinking himself very clever.
“And I will be making the law; thus, your loyalty is to me.” It's factually correct, lacking nuance, but correct.
Danos took a swig of his drink and pursed his lips for a half second too long. “So, boss, do you mind if I ask you a few questions.” Danos lifted his eyebrow up what little he could.
“Long as it’s casual. This is a celebration.” Grillfe tossed a lekku over his shoulder. Open to questioning but cautious. Leku movement unclear and insufficient data. The insufficient data bugged Danos. He could usually just integrate filth like this, but he wouldn’t have to deal with this sham of a politician for long.
“Well, as casual as events like this can be. I wanted to ask what actual policies you wish to employ.” Danosfully expected to get a speech from them.
“As much as I can.” Truth insuficia-. Danos blocked any more updates on insufficient data. “I want to start with reworking laws of non-human food services and gathering of non-human organizations.”
“You mean our inclusion programs so that all species may be evenly reflected in any non-state or business organization.” Danos knew what exactly Grillfe wanted.
“Yes, I think that as it is now, it’s limited in what it can do for the empire and its people. It may be a bit drastic what I want, but it is what is best.” Grillfe took a swig from his drink, and he looked down at the constable.
“This talks about gathering and non-human restaurants, which reminds me of the Ryloth sisterhood of Coruscant. Weren’t you a part of that group before it was forcibly disbanded by the empire.” Danos was impressed with his smooth transition.
“I was, but you misrecollect. The group willing disbanded after the protest proved fruitless.” Danos only then realized he had fully turned off the device. It was fine. He didn’t need it to figure out this one.
“Ah, yes, but there have been a fair number of crimes suspected of the group.”
“There have been accusations, but nothing was proven. This is beginning to sound a lot like an interrogation.” He laughed.
“I’m sorry, I just want to know who my boss is. Speaking of bosses, how did you feel after the passing of your old boss, Kaven Toss.” Another smooth transition.
“I was saddened by his passing, of course, even if we were never on the same level. It is just sad that someone will take their life like that.”
“Yes, but what about-.”
“Mon Mathma, you’ve returned. I would like to talk more about your charities and how I can help,” Grillfe walked past Danos. He smirked. He knew that he had them on the ropes. It was only a matter of time.
